The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia has convoyed transgender man Nazar Gulevich to Detention Center 3 in Rzhev, Tver Oblast. The detention center is a transit point, where Gulevich is going to spend 20 days before being taken to a colony. Alexander Belik, a lawyer working with the Russian LGBT network, reported this to the correspondent of 7x7.

The lawyer of the Russian LGBT network learned that Nazar Gulevich was taken to mixed-type Detention Center 3, where both men and women are kept, from the Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service’s Moscow Directorate Sergei Moroz. According to Alexander Belik, employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service provided Gulevich’s security during the prison transfer: he was kept separately from other prisoners.

“I am waiting for a letter from him via FSIN-Letter. His wife is waiting for him to be given the right to call her, his personal account in the detention center was replenished for calls yesterday, but they still do not let him have a call. His wife cannot send him food, because there is no refrigerator in the cell — there is no place to store it, plus the parcel from Moscow will take a long time to get to Tver, and the local food is disgusting,” Alexander Belik commented to 7x7.

Human rights advocates filed a request with the Federal Penitentiary Service’s Directorate for Tver Oblast to find out which colony they plan to take the man to next. Nazar Gulevich should spend about a month there, as his term ends on May 27, 2021.

Nazar Gulevich was born a woman. In 2008, he began a gender transition stage by having his mammary glands removed. In 2018, he was detained in a fraud case. The man was accused of swindling (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Nazar Gulevich was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison on July 27, 2020. He spent almost two years in a solitary confinement of the Pechatniki Prison for women in Moscow. In February, the Moscow City Court commuted Gulevich's sentence to four years in prison.
