The '112' Telegram channel reported that Navalny had a dislodged blood clot. However, according to social activists, Navalny did not make any health-related complaints while in prison. The UFSIN stated on their website that the cause of death is yet to be determined. The agency deployed a commission to investigate the incident.
Vladimir Putin was informed of Navalny’s death. The president’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, stated that 'The Federal Penitentiary Service is in charge of all inspections, there is no need for special instructions on the matter.'

Navalny’s lawyer, Leonid Solovyev, said that on Wednesday, when his client was paid a visit, 'everything was alright.' Solovyev refused to comment on Navalny’s death, honoring the request of the late politician’s family. They are yet to clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Navalny’s press secretary, Kira Yarmysh, stated that they lack verified information on the oppositionist’s death.

In December 2023, Navalny was transferred to a remote prison in the Kharp settlement in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
