On October 12, Kaliningrad Governor Anton Alikhanov referred to the suppression of Polish uprisings as a "practical guide for modern times." The Baltic Federal University press service reported on the official's remarks.

Anton Alikhanov spoke at a Baltic Federal University conference dedicated to Mikhail Muravyov-Vilensky on October 12. The official referred to the General Governor as an "example to follow."

"His actions remarkably serve as a practical guide for contemporary history and today’s challenges. It's astonishing how many practical lessons one can extract from his experience in quelling uprisings and organizing a peaceful life," Alikhanov said.

The governor described the conference's goal as restoring "historical justice and the truth about our country."

General Governor Muravyov-Vilensky is known for suppressing Polish uprisings in the 1830s and 1860s. Among the public, he had earned the nickname of "Hangman." He replaced the former Lithuanian legislation in favor of the Russian Empire laws and switched the official paperwork to Russian from Polish.

On May 31, Alikhanov announced a plan to erect a nearly five-meter monument to Muravyov-Vilensky near the Baltic Federal University.
