The Vyatichi ('residents of Vyatka') Eco-Unit has found violations of waste sorting and recovery at the landfill in Mtsensk and at the waste sorting plant that covers six districts of Oryol Oblast. The activists demanded that the regional prosecutor's office inspect the activities of the companies named in the investigation. Vyatichi published the video with violations on its YouTube channel.
At the beginning of the video, the activists recorded with the help of a quadrocopter how a truck with waste entered the territory of the Rusresurs Company’s waste sorting plant, was weighed on special scales, and the driver marked his geolocation. Then the car went left for the nearest landfill belonging to the Ekostroyservis Company without unloading, where it dumped the unsorted waste.
In addition, the participants of the eco-unit shot piles of waste that was stored on the plant’s territory and not sorted. The video shows that unsorted waste is then taken to the landfill of the Ekostroyservis Company, which is a violation of the law that prohibits waste burial without prior sorting, according to the activists.
“Rusresurs is included in the territorial scheme as a waste sorting facility which is able to process about 40 thousand tons [of waste] per year. But, having seen the territory of Rusresurs and how the conveyor belt works, we can say with the utmost certainty that it [the company] cannot process such a volume. It is ridiculous to call a shack with a leaky roof a waste sorting plant,” activists Alexander Soldatenkov and Nikolai Snurnitsyn said in the video.
In addition, according to the unit, the landfill of the Ekostroyservis Company has not been included in the territorial scheme of SMW management in Oryol Oblast since the beginning of 2021, which is also a violation of the law.
The activists noted that waste import, sorting, and burial is paid for by the residents of Oryol Oblast. The fact that companies do not comply with the requirements of the law, in their opinion, is fraud and deception of people. Vyatichi demanded that the regional prosecutor's office inspect the activities of the Rusresurs and Ecostroyservis Companies.
“We want people to live in an environmentally friendly place here, and the program in the field of ecology and SMW launched in 2019 is supposed to work. And people should act in accordance with the law, rather than come here and scoop up millions of dollars for themselves,” the activists added at the end of the video.
