Activist Elena Gulina from Syktyvkar has held a one-person picket against the introduction of Russian troops into Kazakhstan and in support of civilians. Gulina reported this to 7x7.

The action took place near the Peoples' Friendship House in Syktyvkar on January 9. The activist held a picket with a poster, "Hands off Kazakhstan". Elena Gulina said that the government of Kazakhstan should have independently solved the problems of its country. The activist does not want Russian citizens to die trying to solve another state's problems.

"I understand Kazakhs who cannot take it anymore. And the increase in gas prices was the last straw for them. This is the only cheap fuel they use. The introduction of our troops also worries me. I do not understand how it is possible to create peace with weapons," Elena Gulina commented to 7x7.

The police approached the social activist during the picket and recorded her data. There were no detentions.

Mass rallies have been held in Kazakhstan since January 2, 2022. Initially, the protesters demanded lower prices for liquefied gas, then the resignation of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first president of the republic. Peaceful rallies turned into clashes with security forces in several localities, including Almaty. On January 6, the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) sent troops to suppress the protest in Kazakhstan. Russia has sent 3 thousand troops to the country. According to the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, 164 people died during the January protests in the country.

Activists from Kirov, Ivanovo, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow have spoken out in support of the residents of Kazakhstan and against the entry of Russian troops.
