Activist Violetta Grudina from Murmansk, who was committed to a hospital with suspected COVID-19, has gone on hunger strike. This is how she is protesting against the actions of the Murmansk Regional Center for Specialized Forms of Medical Care’s administration, where she was committed through a court proceeding on the regional Rospotrebnadzor’s (the Russian Federal State Agency for Health and Consumer Rights) claim in mid-July. She announced this in her Telegram channel "Grudina will report" on July 26.

Ex-coordinator of Navalny's headquarters* Violetta Grudina said her hunger strike was going to last from July 26 until Arkady Amozov, the hospital’s CMO, submitted her application for nomination to the Murmansk City Council and documents for nomination to the Murmansk Territorial Election Commission.

"As of July 25, 2021, the documents I addressed to the chief medical officer have not been received by the TEC, have not been given to my proxy, and have not been returned to me," Grudina reported.

In her opinion, Amozov illegally keeps hold of her documents in order to "prevent her nomination" and "illegally deprive her of personal freedom and the ability to stand for election."

Update July 27

The editorial board of 7x7 tried to contact the center’s chief medical officer, but failed to do this on July 26 and 27. The institution’s reception reported that Arkady Amozov was rarely in the office and it was impossible to contact him. Deputy chief medical officer Nikolai Izotov refused to talk to the media outlet and asked not to call him again, without explaining the reasons for the refusal. The editorial board applied to the Ministry of Health of Murmansk Oblast.

Violetta Grudina announced in April 2021 that she was running for the election to the Murmansk City Council. She used to head local Alexei Navalny's headquarters*, but she decided to continue her political career after its liquidation.

On July 14, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Murmansk settled the claim of the local Rospotrebnadzor for committing Violetta Grudina, a former head of Navalny's headquarters*, to a hospital. According to the agency, the activist, who had been sick with coronavirus, had allegedly gone outside, which was a violation of the stay-at-home order. Grudina showed a negative coronavirus test in court, and officials decided to conduct additional studies.

Supporters of Grudina opposed committing her to a hospital by launching a flash mob. They believe that the activist is being under political pressure because of her intention to participate in the elections to the Murmansk City Council.
