Activists of the Russian Socialist Movement organized the first meeting of volunteers against adapting the plant in Kambarka for the reclamation of hazardous household waste. About 30 people came to the meeting. This was announced on January 28 by the Socialists of Izhevsk Community.
According to the information posted in the community, volunteers are going to print and paste up leaflets, participate in pickets against the waste reclamation plant construction, and operate a call center to coordinate the volunteers' movement. Izhevsk left-wingers plan to hold trainings and divide the responsibilities of the volunteers.
"The fight goes on! First, we want to remind residents of Izhevsk about the impending horror of building enterprise for the reclamation of 50 thousand tons of hazard categories 1 and 2 waste in Kambarka. After that, we are going to increase the number of volunteers and open a permanent headquarters for regular fight and coordination of participants’ protest. Say no to the death factory," the community’s admins wrote.
In June, residents of Udmurtia learned about adapting a chemical weapons destruction plant in Kambarka (a facility for the reclamation of hazardous waste will be built there). The same enterprises for processing hazard categories I–II waste (extremely hazardous and highly hazardous substances) are planned to be built in Kirov, Kurgan and Saratov Oblasts on the site of former munition factories. Residents of these regions are protesting against the hazardous production facilities - opponents of their construction have organized the Say No to Death Factories Movement.
