The regional office of the LDPR organized rally "Return of elections of heads of municipalities and the Governor in KHMAO-Yugra" on Freedom square in Khanty-Mansiysk. During the action, activists opposed the competitive selection of the heads of municipalities and the Governor of Yugra. They believe that the election of heads should take the opinion of people into account, and indirect elections cannot be objective and violate the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
— As far as I know, now only Khabarovsk Krai returned to direct elections. Unfortunately, the municipal Duma are the people chosen by the administration, - said Vitaly Chistov, the Deputy of the Duma of Khanty-Mansiysk.
Entrepreneur Nikolai Voronov continued to resent the lack of direct elections in his speech to the participants.
— You won’t be able to approach the head of the city and ask him for help, because you haven’t chosen him., he doesn't know you, he doesn't even walk around the city at all. Our heads don't work for the residents. They don't even ask what we want. They wanted to raise taxes — they did it, — said Voronov. - Our city lives at the expense of the residents. Not only production but the city’s primary enterprises are not that many.

Deputy of the Duma of Khanty-Mansiysk Alexey Zhukov said that the results of the meeting would be made into a resolution on the return of the Mayor’s electability, which would be sent to the Chairman of the Duma of Khanty-Mansiysk and the head of the city, and a resolution on the election of the Governor’s electability. It will be sent to the President.
In 2019, the regional office of the LDPR have organized 15 pickets in Yugra for the return of direct elections of mayors.
