Arkhangelsk environmental activists negotiated a rally against the construction of the landfill for Moscow garbage at station Shies and other landfills in Arkhangelsk Oblast with the authorities. The rally will take place on September 22 at Terekhin square, the organizers reported on the community page of Pomorye Is Not a Dump!
Terekhin square is located on the outskirts of Arkhangelsk, in the historic district of Solombala. The rally will begin at 12:00.
- We are planning to announce not only the subject of Shies itself, but also the recently adopted territorial scheme for waste management in Arkhangelsk Oblast, as well as the explosion at the military facility near Nyonoksa and its possible consequences for the population. In addition, we hope that criminal cases against defense lawyers will be terminated. Following the meeting, we will put forward the relevant requirements to the regional and federal authorities, - assistant organizer of the rally Alexander Peskov told 7x7 ".
In early September, environmental activists in Arkhangelsk Oblast and the Komi Republic pronounced September 22 a day of protest against the importation of garbage from Moscow to Arkhangelsk Oblast and the landfill construction at station Shies. The two regions were joined not only by the cities of Arkhangelsk Oblast, but also by Kirov, Vologda, Moscow, and St. Petersburg. The activists of these cities have filed notification on holding of protest rallies.
Eco-activists held an agreed meeting in the format of a concert at Terekhin square in Arkhangelsk on May 19, 2019. About 8 thousand people came to it.
It became known about the construction of the landfill for solid municipal waste from Moscow and Moscow Oblast at station Shies near the village of Urdoma on the border of Arkhangelsk Oblast and the Komi Republic in the summer of 2018. Residents of the two regions have united and are holding protests against the importation of garbage to Shies. Opponents of the landfill construction organized a round-the-clock eco-watch to record violations during construction work in December 2018.
LLC Technopark officially announced the termination of work on the construction site from June 15 and the beginning of examinations and inspections. All the equipment was taken from Shies. Eco-activists have not decamped and continue to monitor the territory. In the cities, indefinite protests continue at the central squares. Activists in other regions of Russia joined the protest.
