One more application for holding a rally "In support of Svetlana Chechil and resignation of Khudilainen" in the capital of Karelia was rejected in the administration of Petrozavodsk. The reason was planned repair works at the fountain "Molecule" from 23 to 25 August, 18:00 to 20:00, at the Students' boulevard of the city.
It was not specified in the management response, why this time was chosen for the repair of the fountain which worked fine until now. However, the organizers of the rally were not surprised at such refusal. For them, this was not the first attempt to hold a rally or a picket in support of Svetlana Chechil in the center of Petrozavodsk. There are lots of reasons not to hold the event.
For example, 28.06.2016, organizers (members of the initiative group write statements) were refused to picket near the building of the government "in connection with the planned repair work on the territory adjacent to the building of the Government of the Republic of Karelia". It was noted that the work would last until August 1st.
The organizers of the picket applied for August 10 again. At this time, concern for the population came to the fore: according to employees of the State Committee to ensure the life and safety of the population of Karelia, the rally from 13:00 to 14:00 would "interfere with the movement of pedestrians at the Lenin prospect, and (or) transport to bus shelters at the Lenin prospect, or citizens' access to premises or facilities of transport or social infrastructure (for example, dining of CJSC "Sotspitservis" ...)."
August 11, 2016 the administration of the Karelian capital has refused to hold a rally at the Student Boulevard because of mass event "Leto.ru: young people in the city". However, it did not take place.
August 16 and 18, 2016 another youth event was scheduled at the same place – "Leto.PTZ". And again the meeting was denied, and the so-called "event" did not gather a single representative of the Karelian youth.
Organizers are not going to give up on the idea to hold a rally or picket "In support of Svetlana Chechil and for the resignation of Alexander Khudilainen" and wonder on other reasons of the Karelian officials to refuse to conduct the action.
Petrozavodsk City Court announced its verdict on April 27: Svetlana Chechil was scheduled one and a half years of imprisonment in a penal colony, she was taken into custody in the courtroom. Chechil did not admit guilt.
The reason was decision to change the permitted use of land from farm to a country one lawsuit began, signed in 2012 by the head of Prionezhsky district. The investigation believes that Chechil did that on behalf of her friend and the individual entrepreneur.
The first and so far the only action in support of Svetlana Chechil was held in the Karelian capital on 16 May. It was a format picket: about fifty Petrozavodsk residents came to the central prospect of the city, demanding the release of Svetlana Chechil. According to the protesters, it was unfair, customized and political nature of the prosecution.
August 9, the Supreme Court of Karelia upheld the verdict of the City Court.
