On July, 27 activists of "Save the face of the city" came out to protest against the construction of an 8-storeyed shopping center in the historic area of the city.
At the square near the Philharmonic the organizers installed a sound-amplifying equipment and information cubes that clarified what the action was devoted to.
Alexander Osipov was the first who took the floor; he spoke about how he and the initiative group managed to defend garden square at the intersection of Karl Marx and Profsoyuznaya streets.
After that Anton Kasanov told of the many historic buildings set in the area. According to Kasanov, the city administration is not right in saying that it is not a historical part of the city. Moreover, he said that a new mall will create a huge burden on transport infrastructure and building services of the area.
Besides, the speakers said that the construction of an eight-storeyed mall was hidden from the citizens, but even if they won’t get results here, it is still necessary to unite to prevent such developments in other parts of the city.
After the meeting member of the organizing committee of the movement "Save the face of the city" Stanislav Suvorov told «7x7» about the future plans of movement:
“Today we have tried to draw attention of public and administration to the problem of the infill construction, ill-conceived, destroying the city's appearance. We’ll continue to try to build a relationship between citizens to exercise civilian control, send statements to the prosecutor on the violations of regulations that we have already identified.
