On February 27, the trial of the Karelian researcher of the Stalinist repressions Yury Dmitriev, who is accused of sexual assault against a minor, continued. In court, his daughter Ekaterina Klodt testified.
Klodt was interrogated for about an hour and a half. She informed «7x7» that she could not reveal the essence of the interrogation, because the meeting was held in closed session.
“I stood, answered questions and thought that at last I could see my father. Most importantly, they will give me an opportunity to visit him tomorrow. I have not seen him since the end of September, I did not visit him. And tomorrow I will finally be able to talk with him, discuss everything. I am very glad that my interrogation has finally taken place.”
Klodt was not allowed to visit her father after the case was referred to the court.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 6.
Update at 5:03 pm. Ekaterina Klodt was not allowed to meet her father after the interrogation. The reasons are unknown.
The head of the Karelian branch of the Memorial Society and the researcher of the Stalinist repressions Yury Dmitriev was first arrested on December 13, 2016 on suspicion of producing pornographic pictures of his adopted daughter. On March 9, 2017, he was charged under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“Illegal possession of firearms”).
In July 2017, the Interregional Human Rights Organization “Memorial” recognized Yury Dmitriev as a political prisoner and demanded to stop his criminal prosecution.
On April 5, 2018 the court of Petrozavodsk acquitted the researcher on the article on pornography, but the Supreme Court of Karelia cancelled this decision on June 14. Yury Dmitriev was again detained on June 27. The investigative committee opened a new criminal case under the article on “sexual assault against a minor”. At the request of lawyer Victor Anufriev, both cases were merged into one.
