Roskomnadzor issued a warning to the online journal «7x7» for an interview with a member of the federal committee of the Libertarian Party, Mikhail Svetov, which was published in the blog of Tambov's blogger Alexander Smoleev. The editors received a copy of the document on August 15.
The interview was published on the website on March 5, 2018. The politician talked about dangers of synthetic drugs and heroin. According to Roskomnadzor experts, heroin was "put in a good light." The warning, signed by deputy head of Roskomnadzor Vadim Subbotin, states that the agency experts conducted an expertise on January 18 and established the "fact of distribution" of the interview, although it was only published in March.
On June 20, «7x7» was fined by 800 thousand rubles, and the editor-in-chief Sofia Krapotkina — by 40 thousand rubles for the same interview. The online journal challenged this decision in Syktyvkar city court; the next hearing on the case will be held on August 30. Director of «7x7» Pavel Andreev and the union of journalists and media workers called the court decision "an act of censorship".
On August 13, the chairman of the Moscow Helsinki Group, human rights activist Lyudmila Alexeyeva, supported the editorial board of «7x7» on her blog on "Echo of Moscow": "The «7x7» case is another illustration of the growing administrative and repressive absurdity in the country, when the government is shooting sparrows. What does the interview for which «7x7» is punished have to do with drug propaganda? Nothing."
If two warnings are issued during the year, Roskomnadzor may initiate the procedure for termination of the media through the court.
