The poet and teacher Alexander Byvshev was charged under Article 282 of the Criminal Code for publishing the poem "On the Independence of Ukraine". He wrote about this on his blog on «7x7» on October 31.

Alexander Byvshev is sure that law enforcement agencies have an order to condemn him before the presidential campaign: "Ironically, I was invited to present the document on the criminal charge for my "extremist" poems on October 30, the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions. The court turned out all the petitions of my lawyer and me. I was presented with the results of the "investigation" of the Voronezh Regional Forensic Center, as well as of the Oryol Laboratory of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, where all the "experts in uniform" found inciting hatred or enmity towards a group of people "Russian" in my rhymes. And on Thursday, November 2, I am invited to see already prepared several volumes of materials on my third criminal case. The investigation does not even try to observe at least the appearance of legality and impartiality, but simply stupidly tries to finish everything quickly. The deputy head of the Kromsky Interdistrict Investigative Department of the SKR directly stated that trial would take place before the new year."

Alexander Byvshev is accused of inciting hatred to the Russians by means of a poem of his own work, which he published in 2015 in the social network VKontakte. The management of the Investigative Committee for the Oryol region believes that Byvshev violated the Constitution of the Russian Federation in the part where the state guarantees the equality of human rights and freedoms regardless of nationality. According to investigators, he thus attracted "supporters of the ideas of nationalism".

Alexander Byvshev worked as a teacher of German in the village of Kromy, Oryol region until 2014. When he supported the territorial integrity of Ukraine in verse, he was fired, and he received a lifetime ban on practicing pedagogy after accusations of extremism. His poem "Ukrainian patriots" was recognized in Russia as extremist.

In 2015 Byvshev complained to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for criminal prosecution (a local court sentenced him to 300 hours of compulsory labor), and in October 2017 the ECHR sent requests to the Russian authorities.

The former teacher lives in Kromy along with sick parents, police seized his laptops during several searches. Byvshev learned about the initiation of a new criminal case on October 20, 2017.
