On July 23 Voronezh 68-year-old activist Stanislav Egorov was beaten and hospitalized with several fractures. Correspondent of «7x7» talked to him and gathered some information.

Who is Egorov

Voronezh residents know Stanislav Egorov as a 'grandpa blogger'. He has accounts on several social networks, including Google+.

The pensioner also actively participates in the anti-nickel movement. Voronezh eco-activists have been protesting against the construction of the UMMC [Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company] in Novokhopersky district since 2012. Activists fear contamination of soil and groundwater in the area of nickel mining by heavy metals. In 2014, Putin arrived to the session of the State Council in Voronezh, and Egorov met him with a poster 'Kremlin is terror'.

Now Egorov is preparing another appeal to law enforcement agencies, in particular, to the head of the Investigative Committee for the Voronezh Region, Kirill Levit, for refusing to institute a criminal case against the environmental prosecutor's office, which allegedly is inactive. For many years feces merge into the floodplain of the Voronezh River, to the place where fish spawn.

'I wrote a request to Putin, five days later I received a reply with a bat'

According to Egorov, the attack may be related to his investigation of the activities of the homeowners' association repairing his house.

The press service of the Voronezh Ministry of Internal Affairs calls Egorov a 'complainer': he often writes statements to the police. Last autumn he was beaten, and the criminal case was initiated under the article 'Deliberate infliction of harm to moderate health', there are no suspects yet.

Attacks on Voronezh activists

As a rule, the attackers are not found. For example, in 1998, the assembly leader Andrei Rashevsky was beaten. Criminals escaped punishment.

In 2013, unknown destroyed the camp of ecoactivists on the river Khopyor and beat its inhabitants. Environmentalists protested against nickel mining in the Voronezh region. One of the victims was later convicted of extorting bribes. The Human Rights Center 'Memorial' recognized him as a political prisoner.

In 2014, unknown people beat and poured zelyonka on human rights defender Andrei Yurov.

In 2015, someone attacked Alexander Boldyrev. In the same year, activist of the anti-nickel movement Svetlana Kuznetsova was beaten on the way out of the house.
