Justice Court of the Omutninsky district of the region recognized the 21-year-old local resident guilty of insulting the feelings of believers and fined him for 25 thousand rubles.

The young man posted drawings and inscriptions in 'VKontakte' that offended Christians and clergymen. The prosecutor's office could not clarify what exactly was written and drawn.

This is the first sentence for insulting the feelings of believers in the Kirov region in 2017. In total, according to the prosecutor's office, there were three of them. In 2016, two residents of were sentenced to compulsory work for 230 hours each. In September of 2015 they hung a homemade scarecrow with an insulting inscription on a memorial cross in the village of Old Malinovka.

Responsibility for insulting the feelings of believers was first brought to the Code of Administrative Offenses in 2002. Violation of Article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses was punishable by a fine of 5 to 10 thousand rubles. In 2013, the Criminal Code amendments tightened the article. Violators could be punished with a fine, compulsory work and a prison sentence of up to three years.

The amendments were made after the case of Pussy Riot – its participants performed a punk prayer in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Ekaterina Samutsevich were sentenced for two years for hooliganism. Imprisonment of Samutsevich was replaced by a suspended sentence.
