Syktyvkar police established the identity of a citizen who daubed a statue of Lenin at Stefanovskaya square of the capital of Komi with blue and yellow paint; he was detained. Today the head of the Russian Interior Ministry in Syktyvkar Vladislav Mingela announced this at a city-wide planning meeting.

According to him, the incident occurred on 22 April at 22:20. It was reported on April 24th. A case under Article 214 of the Criminal Code ("Vandalism") was opened. As a result, 27-year-old resident of Syktyvkar was arrested.
“Is that provocation, or something else?” the head of the administration of Syktyvkar Ivan Pozdeev asked. “How do you qualify?”
“At the moment we are close to the hooligan motive,” Vladislav Mingela said.

The fact of desecration of the monument caused a negative reaction of the head of Komi Vyacheslav Gaizer. Last Saturday, he publicly appealed to the law enforcement agencies with the requirement to investigate and punish the perpetrators of this act.
“Regardless of the identity of Vladimir Lenin such a boorish attitude to historical monuments is unacceptable,” the governor said. “This attitude is not to an individual, it is defiling feelings of many people in our country. And it is doubly unacceptable on the eve of the Great Victory, which is associated with this monument. I hope that vandals will be found and will be punished within a short time. There is no place for ideological provocations in the Komi Republic.”

The director of the municipal enterprise "Zhilkomservice" Dmitry Mullayanov reported on the planning meeting in the city administration that the monument would be cleared in the near future:
“The paint on the monument of Lenin will be removed today.”
“Yes, we must do this,” Ivan Pozdeev supported him.
