Activist Yegor Russky, who actively opposes the policy of the head of the Komi Sergey Gaplikov, in particular, against the introduction of the republican law No. 144 on the abolition of compensation for a kindergarten, was detained in Ukhta on July 7 at 4 pm. In the morning of the same day, he called on his page to go to the forum 'Innovation: Krokhal 2017' near Ukhta to ask the 'inconvenient' questions.

His companion Victoria Semyonova was waiting for him in the department of physical culture and sports of Ukhta, where he was present as director of the swimming pool 'Youth'.

In the local FSB department Semyonova was informed that Russky was taken away, 'because the boss wants to get to know him'.

Lawyer Roman Koidan, who appealed to the Supreme Court of the Republic, is sure that the reason for the detention was the decision of Yegor Russky to meet with Sergei Gaplikov.

'Yegor was detained because he was going to event that took place in Krokhal. There were no other reasons to detain him, he is absolutely law-abiding citizen,' the lawyer assured. 'According to the rules, he can be detained for clarifying the identity for a period of not more than four hours.'

Yegor Russky became known after he spoke out against republican law No. 144, abolishing compensation for fees for kindergartens for parents whose income exceeds 1.5 subsistence minimums per family member.

In June, he recorded a video message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he criticized the policy of the authorities of the Komi Republic.

In 2014, Russky was Mayor of Lutugino in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic.
