On January 20, LGBT activists of the "Callisto" community in the center of Yaroslavl held a series of single pickets against torture and murder of homosexuals in Chechnya. Correspondent of «7x7» talked with the participants of the action.

Activists came out with posters to the Volkovsky Theater, on Kirov Street and on Sovetskaya Square.

"In 2017, the first wave of persecution of Chechen LGBT people began," said activist Alan Erokh. "It is now known that in 2019 at least two homosexuals were killed. Ramzan Kadyrov says there are no gays in Chechnya, so LGBT people do not have rights there. They are found through friends, detained, tortured, revealed to the family; what happens to them later is unknown. They just need help."

According to Erokh, pickets in defense of LGBT representatives in the Chechen Republic on January 20 are also held in other Russian cities.

On January 14, the Russian LGBT community reported the abduction of several dozen people whom the Chechen authorities suspected of homosexuality. According to human rights activists, two of them were executed, and the republican authorities prevent gays from leaving Chechnya.

Since 2017, about 150 representatives of the LGBT community have left Chechnya, fearing persecution.
