On May 17, police detained two activists of the Russian LGBT Network during a picket on the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
According to him, a few days ago activists applied for a procession on the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, but the city administration did not agree. Then they decided to make pickets.
The first two pickets took place at the Theater Square and the mayor's office of Syktyvkar. The activist held poster with the inscription "I'm a queer. Give me a hug". Nina Popugaeva and Vyacheslav Slyusarev, who filmed a picket, were detained during the third picket.
"The police approached, they did not introduce themselves and spoke rudely. I insisted that police officers introduce themselves. We were detained and taken to the police station. They have not yet explained the reason of detention. It happened 50 minutes ago," Slyusarev said. He stressed that the picket, according to approximate calculations, was at a distance of more than 150 meters from the Constitutional Court.
In July 2011 the mayor's office banned holding meetings, rallies and demonstrations at Stefanovskaya Square. Shortly before that, the Constitutional Court of Komi moved to the State Council building, and by law the ban extended to a distance of 150 meters from it. Public activists and human rights activists abolished this ban in court. But in November 2012, on the initiative of the LDPR deputies, the State Council of Komi prohibited the holding of public events at Stefanovskaya Square again, as well as in several other places. Civil activists continued holding pickets at Stefanovskaya Square, for which they were fined.
