On February 27, about 50 Novgorodians honored the memory of the politician Boris Nemtsov, who was killed three years ago, as well as other public figures and journalists who were victims for political reasons. Correspondent of «7x7» visited the event.
A rally coordinated with the city authorities was held in the hyde park near the monument to Peter I. The initiator of the action was Irina Shigaeva from Novgorod.
"Beside Boris Nemtsov, we also remembered other people who were killed for political reasons. In fact, we protest against such murders. They were killed in order to silence them and intimidate us. But we came because we are not afraid to talk about these people, about government, about corruption," Irina Shigaeva said.
The rally participants also honored the memory of the deputy of the State Duma of the second convocation Galina Starovoitova, journalists Dmitry Kholodov, Anna Politkovskaya and Natalia Estemirova.
The activists did not send any open letters and resolutions to the authorities, they did not put forward any demands.
Boris Nemtsov was killed in the center of Moscow on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge on February 27, 2015. In July 2017, five murderers were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. They did not admit their guilt.
