The defendant stabbed a nail into his liver on January 22 in protest against the actions of the institution's employees.

According to the human rights activist Arthur Abashev, the man wrote complaints to the human rights commissioner in the region for dampness in the cell. According to the accused, he was allegedly beaten for this and placed in a punishment cell.

The press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Kirov region reported the man broke the plinth in the cell, took out a nail from it and stabbed it into the chest area. The victim is hospitalized, his health is not threatened. On the fact of the incident, an official check is carried out. The victim was repeatedly convicted.

The department specified that the legislation provides for material liability for damage to the property of the institution and reimbursement of costs associated with the treatment of a prisoner who caused himself harm intentionally.

"Defendants in court cases are convicts who want to spend part of the time in hospital conditions, and for this they open their veins, swallow metal objects, spoons, blades from disposable razors and any small items."

The Ombudsman for Human Rights in the Kirov Region was not available for comment at the time of publication. An employee of the ombudsman's office, told «7x7» that he can not remember the complaints about dampness in the cells that were received recently. He said that he would report the situation to ombudsman and make a request to the management of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Kirov region. The UFSIN claims that all the victim's correspondence was sent.

Arthur Abashev confirmed complaints against dampness in the cells of the building.
