The Omutninsky District Court sentenced convicted Eduard Gorbunov to a year and two months in a special regime colony for false denunciation.

Gorbunov will eventually spend three years in the colony — a year and ten months of the old term, plus a new punishment.

According to the lawyer, the defense will appeal the verdict in the Kirov Regional Court. Presumably, the appeal will be considered in early December.

In February 2017, the convicted Eduard Gorbunov, who is serving a sentence in one of the Kirov colony, claimed that he was tortured in the institution: he made a video message with the help of his lawyer. The investigation did not confirm his information. So Gorbunov was brought to trial on a false denunciation. The hearings were held behind closed doors for some unknown reason.

Gorbunov informed human rights activists that during the process he was asked to bear false witness against his ex-lawyer Natalia Kruglikova — she allegedly forced him to tell about torture in the colony.

In the Kirov region, Aleksey Galkin, who served his sentence in colony No. 20, also stated about violence; a criminal case was opened against him on false denunciation, he received two years of a strict-regime colony.

In both cases, the administration of the FSIN for the Kirov region denied the fact of torture and accused human rights activists of moving convicts forward in denunciations.
