A court in Chelyabinsk has revoked the acquired Russian citizenship of two individuals for evading military service, as reported by TASS on December 15.
Two brothers, who arrived from a neighboring country, lost their citizenship after the police filed a lawsuit against them. The investigation revealed that the men allegedly provided false information during the submission of their migration documents to evade conscription.
The brothers ‘caught the eye of the police’ during a raid on migrants, leading the court to order their departure from the country. Failure to comply would result in their deportation by law enforcement.
This marks the first instance of citizenship revocation in Russia due to military service evasion.
In July, it was revealed that Kaluga Oblast was denying citizenship to migrants unless they signed a contract to join the military forces in Ukraine.
Concurrently, security forces initiated raids on foreigners and men with acquired citizenship who had not completed their military registration. Such operations took place in St. Petersburg, Chuvashia, Belgorod Oblast, Perm Krai, and other regions.
